Solar Photovoltaic

Solar energy is a rapidly expanding industry, your carbon footprint has never been so important with global warming and climate change becoming a constant reminder.

The government has signed the 'Climate Change Act', a bill to ensure a greener UK by 2020. It promises 40% of electricity will come from low carbon sources by that date and investing £3.2bn, along with incentive schemes to ensure households become more energy efficient by 29% on 2008 levels.

Solar Photovoltaic Panels are at the forefront of this initiative, being one of the prime ways to achieve the government's targets. This is good news for homeowners as a great tax free investment opportunity.

Frequently Ask Questions

What are solar panels?

Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells with thin layers of semi conducting material which change solar radiation (sunlight) into direct current electricity (which powers your home).

How will it benefit me?

MONEY - Reduced bills! The government are committed to a greener UK and have brought ‘Feed In Tariffs' into place to guarantee you are rewarded for doing your bit for the environment. Solar panels are an investment, producing income for 20 plus years. Increase property value and reduce your carbon footprint all in one go.

What are Feed In Tariffs?

If you install solar panels on your roof they produce electricity, therefore you don't have to buy as much off your supplier (like home-grown electricity). That's not all.. The governments FIT (Feed in Tariffs) will give you money for every KWh unit you produce even if you use it yourself. If you don't use the electricity your panels produce it will automatically export back to the national grid.

How do I get sorted on the FIT?

Solelectric provides all the necessary forms and set everything up for you. It's as easy as that. Our dedicated projects manager will take care of everything from start to finish including a customer satisfaction review 6 months after installation.

How much does it cost?

The cost is dependant on how many panels will fit on your roof. We pride ourselves on producing the highest quality service at a competitive price. For further information or a free quotation please don't hesitate to contact us or complete your details on the contact page.

How long will it take to install?

A typical installation will take 1 day on a domestic property, longer on commercial.

How soon will I receive payback on the systems?

This depends on the size of your system and how much energy it produces. A typical 4kw system could be between 7-10 years.

How long will the system last?

The panels have a 20 year manufacturer's operational warranty yet have a expected working lifetime of 40 years+. The inverter (the box which the electricity goes to) has a manufacturer's warranty of 10 years and expected lifetime of 15 years.

How much maintenance do they require?

Very little if any. The panels have no moving part, are made of self cleaning materials and are waterproof. The panels can be cleaned once and year if required with a hose or soapy water and a non abrasive cloth. Panels are silent in operation.

Do I need planning permission?

NO! Most domestic properties within Britain do not need planning permission yet properties in Conservation areas, areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, World Heritage areas and listed buildings must consult local planning departments.

Can I use any electricity supplier?

Yes, all companies are obliged to offer the same Feed In Tariffs.
